Beautiful baby gift.

Nothing makes for a lovelier newborn present as something personal. We think this gorgeous clay plaque by San Francisco artist, Rae Dunn, is unlike anything we've seen. Each plaque is handmade and imprinted in the artist's signature old-fashioned typewriter lettering on white clay. Built entirely by hand, no two plaques are identical which adds to the charm and personality of each piece.

What's hiding in Van Gogh's "Patch of Grass."

I love arty science stories.

(AMSTERDAM, Netherlands) — A team of European scientists unveiled on Wednesday a new method for extracting images hidden under old masters' paintings, recreating a color portrait of a woman's face unseen since Vincent van Gogh painted over it in 1887.

[...] While not exact in every detail, the image produced is a woman's head that may be the same model Van Gogh painted in a series of portraits leading up to the 1885 masterpiece "The Potato Eaters."

Scott, Carissa, Evelyn & Bobby

Scott and Carissa moved to Kentucky 18 months ago as two and will return to Nebraska in a couple of weeks as a family of four. Aren't they adorable? Even Bobby, the dog, was photogenic! We just met through our local little adoptive parents group and I'm sad we won't get to know them better, but so excited to have this opportunity to do their first official family photo session! Thankfully, they're great bloggers so we look forward to watching Evelyn grow up through her mommy's great pictures (oh yes! Carissa is also a photographer and tonight we swapped services and shot each other's families -- I think I definitely got the easier end of the bargain as Els could hardly stay still for more than a split second). Guys, we pray the best and share your joy in this next great venture in your lives!

Eat With Your Fingers

Spanish design group Merry Kawamura Ganjavian has provided the solution of eating India food (or any other "finger" food) without getting your fingers all greasy.

Courageous E-mail.

COLUMBUS, OH—A bravely worded e-mail written by graphic designer Brent Quigley decrying his advertising firm's "complete lack of managerial competence" and its "utter failure to treat employees with respect" has remained inside the drafts folder since it was first composed on Dec. 4, 2007.

Grass photographs.

Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey [...] have perfected their talent for manipulating the light sensitivity of ordinary grass. Black and white negatives are projected onto the grass, 12 hours per day, for over a week as the grass grows in a dark room. Different blades get different exposure and the results are photographs, like the recent Wimbledon portraits shown above.

Packing Tape Gets Artistic

What can you do with a roll of packing tape?
- Packing?
No, this is not a stupid question. Mark Khaisman proves that in the hands of an artist, anything could turn into a work of art.

RIP, Prof. Randy Pausch

Good Morning America broke the news of Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch, 47, has lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. If you don't know him yet, watch The Last Lecture on Youtube, nothing is more worthy of your time.

Here are some of lessons I learned from his lecture:

1. Brick walls are there for a reason: they let us prove how badly we want things.
2. Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.
3. Never lose the child-like wonder.
4. If we do something which is pioneering, we will get arrows in the back. But at the end of the day, a whole lot of people will have a whole lot of fun.
5. Be good at something; it makes you valuable.
6. If you live your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, and the dreams will come to you.

What Book Got You Hooked?

Russian Photographer Olaf Martens

Russian photographer Olaf Martens. I like the shock his photography delivers at first glance. Not just the unique composition but the meaning of each photos. It's not sweet, not pleasantly beautiful, but it makes you think.
