Michael Hess is a German photographer based in London. He first started taking photographs with his father’s Praktica camera while studying structural engineering in Weimar. Interested in little-explored society groups, he spent two years capturing the UK’s hip-hop scene. After a chance visit to a bingo club in Southampton, he began a four-year project on bingo. He’s also worked on stories like an American road trip with an aspiring musician, women in Iran and a controversial concrete block of flats.
His work has been exhibited in London’s Host Gallery, Cardiff’s Millennium Centre and Southampton’s Picturehouse Cinema. As well as his own projects, he’s worked as a freelancer for corporate publications and music magazines.
