nr1977 by MihaDesign | Spoon & Tamago

The design of this space is brilliant.

Naoto Mitsumoto and Naoko Hamana of architectural studio MihaDesign were asked to renovate an old apartment that was constructed in 1957. Working within the confines of a 2-bedroom, 770 sq ft (71.5 sq mt) apartment, the designers were asked to propose a solution for the owners – a husband and wife with 4 kids – who desperately needed to come up with a creative use of the limited space.

Atelier Takagi | Subdivisions

These table lamps are fab. AND the product detail references the Rush song, which made me smile – it's the first thing I thought of when I saw the name.

"Sprawling on the fringes of the city
In geometric order
An insulated border
In between the bright lights
And the far unlit unknown"

Kumagai House.

This house in Japan takes my breath away.

The structure is composed of two structures: a three-level tower and a single-story base. The base section is buried 28 inches into the ground — deep enough that the dining table becomes level with the outside garden. The rooftop of the base section, which raises an individual slightly above street level, becomes an additional space within itself.

The tower, although physically separate, accommodates the base section with a broad visual of the surrounding neighborhood and scenery. Standing eight meters tall, the tower provides its residents with a stunning view of the mountainous regions within the area.

The Hello Wall.

If I were to write a crime novel, I would SO use this as a plot device to help my fleeing protagonists communicate.

Wasted Spaces commissioned London-based artist duo Hellicar & Lewis to develop The Hello Wall.

The installation went live this Monday, March 8th. It uses Twitter to let the public interact with the huge wall projection on Wembley High Road.

Until Sunday March 14th, you can get interact with this live artwork by Tweeting commands to @thehellowall. You can use shapes (triangles, squares, circles), commands (more, less, shake) or just say hello@thehellowall.

The Hello Wall.

Looks like they're looking for another space for it now. Wish we could afford to bring it over here to shine on our office building...

The Tiny Transforming Apartment.

24 different rooms in 330 square feet. I'd seen online features about this over the last year, but seeing it on video is MINDBENDING.

The Wings of MAM

The Quadracci Pavilion at the Milwaukee Art Musuem, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava brought MAM back to fame. And when you see these photos, it's not hard to understand why.

Best lecture hall ever.

This would have cheered me up no end during college.

Museum 1302 features customized, colorful versions of the furniture line’s 01 Chair, its seat and backrest upholstered in different hues. Against the auditorium’s spare grey walls and cement steps, Room 26 bursts as wildly as pop rocks. The chairs achieve what Studio Arne Quinze intends—“infectious creations that pull you into their self-shaped sphere and hold you captive.”
