I hate to admit it, but winter IS just around the corner. I might get one of these for peace of mind. At $30, it's a nice way to avoid a messy, cold encounter with a dead car battery. It may not be terribly designy, but it is tiny – which is cool.

The Porta-Jump is a small (about 3” x 3” x 2 1/2”), portable battery designed as a multi-use emergency jump starter when your battery has run too low. It comes in a nylon pouch—place it in your glove compartment or trunk until you need it. Smith Corona Portable USB Typewriter.

This is a Smith Corona Portable typewriter that has been modified with custom electronics to work as a standard USB keyboard.

The typewriter itself is in good condition, all keys work smoothly although there is one stuck key (the @ key). Also, the key registration is off (lines of text don't appear crooked on the page.) The ink is fresh and it does work as a regular typewriter in addition to being a USB keyboard.

FM3 Buddha Machine 2.0

A co-worker just turned me on to this. It appeals to me on so many levels - my weaknesses for Buddhist chants, transistor radios, sound machines... I couldn't press "Buy" fast enough.

Check out the sound samples. Very cool, if you like this sort of thing. At $23, it could be a nice little gift for your fave gadget geek, music nerd or new age-y pal.




The Buddha Machine is a little plastic box that plays music.

Specifically, FM3 constructed nine drones, varying from two seconds to 42 seconds, which repeat endlessly in the listener’s ear until the “track” is switched to the next drone (or the two AA batteries run out).

The machine has its own built-in speaker, in case one would like to fill a room with the drones, but there is also a headphone jack for more personal meditative experiences. There’s a switch on the side that allows for traversal of the tracks, and a DC jack (though an adapter is not included) for those who would like the Buddha Machine experience be truly endless.

In a way, it’s like the cheapest pre-loaded iPod you’ll ever be able to buy.

Very simple and sweet. Love the name, too.


Designed in Holland, Driinn is named after the sound that the Dutch think a phone makes when it rings. Just wrap the charge cord around the holder; the Driinn hangs between the battery charger and the electric outlet. It provides a safe haven for your device to rest while charging and a convenient storage place for the charging cord.

Pileus is an umbrella connected to the Internet to make walking in rainy days fun. Pileus has a large screen on the top surface, a built-in camera, a motion sensor, GPS, and a digital compass, and it provides two main functions; A Social Photo-sharing and A 3D Map Navigation.

The photo function is connected to a major web service "Flickr". A user can take photo with a camera on the umbrella, and pictures are uploaded to Flickr in two minutes with context tags via a wireless Internet connection.
