New year. New template.

It was time, gentle readers. Things will be jacked for a few days (or weeks) while I clean up sidebar links and format glitches, so bear with me, 'kay?

Fab Don James Poster.

I have no interest in surfing whatsoever, but I'd buy this poster for the design. Pretty web site, too.

Creative Time/Jenny Holzer Bag.

To help celebrate Creative Time's contribution to the public art field and the publication of Creative Time:The Book, documenting their many projects over the past 33 years, JACK SPADE has produced a limited edition coal bag with artwork from Jenny Holzer¹s project For New York City (a plane pulling the artist's truism banner "Abuse of Power Comes as No Surprise")

Judge a Book by its Cover.

A blog supporting my hypothesis that, while every good book may not have a good cover, books with really bad covers are often just really bad.

Written by a librarian (the blog, I mean - not Chicks in Chainmail). Lots of sci fi and romance novels as you might expect, but other stuff as well. It made me chuckle.

I think I've posted about this site before, but it's worth highlighting again. SUCH amazing posters. These are from ONE artist, Wiktor Gorka. There are dozens on the site.

    Adolf Wölfli.

After being weirdly underwhelmed by the Martín Ramírez exhibit at the MAM, I was mesmerized/fascinated/blown away by this man's work. I could spend hours on this site.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, Adolf Wölfli, a former farmhand and laborer, produced a monumental, 25,000-page illustrated narrative in Waldau, a mental asylum near Bern, Switzerland. Through a complex web of texts, drawings, collages and musical compositions, Wölfli constructed a new history of his childhood and a glorious future with its own personal mythology. The French Surrealist André Breton described his work as "one of the three or four most important oeuveres of the twentieth century". Since 1975, our aim is to make Adolf Wölfli's work known through one-man and group exhibitions as well as publications.

    Smart guerrilla advertising.

Entrepreneurs armed with little more than a URL and a pair of gloves are taking advantage of what would otherwise be an expensive media purchase. Chancers like playstickball.com are etching their messages into the disgusting layer of soot/scum/pollution that forms on the delivery vehicles that service our urban areas and thereby occupying some premium advertising real-estate. Who knows whether it's legal or not, but it's certainly an effective way of putting your product or service in front of millions of people without blowing your marketing budget!

Damn you, John Hodgeman. Instead of cleaning my apartment while I'm waiting for my friends to get here, I've just spent about 30 minutes listening to Paul & Storm jingles and ditties.

What I love the most about this (besides its wonderful IA goodness) is that Coudal, our fellow midwestern creatives, are on it.

We present you with the 2008 Web Trend Map, in all its beautiful beta glory. This time we’ve taken almost 300 of the most influential and successful websites and pinned them down to the greater Tokyo-area train map. Yummy soup recipe!

I love this time of year because I can make one of my favorite things to cook: soup! I enjoy experimenting with different combinations of ingredients and the more unusual, the better!

All week I've been looking forward to Friday night as we've been invited to a friend's home for a soup and salad potluck dinner. I was told about a particular Rachael Ray recipe for chipotle-pumpkin-blackbean soup and in searching for it on her site, stumbled across another that looked nearly as tempting: chicken tortilla with chipotle and fire-roasted tomatoes. Since my mom was unsuccessful in finding the original curried-tomato soup recipe that I had copied from her a few years ago, I found another one similar to it and bought ingredients for all three soups.

My husband, Nathan, has been a good sport in my experimentation this week which has stretched the limits of even his palate, but tonight gave 2 enthusiastic thumbs up to tonight's experiment, so I thought I would share. The winner...: chicken tortilla soup with chipotle and fire-roasted tomatoes!

My recommendations and substitutions: definitely include the fresh cilantro! It adds a special freshness. I didn't have a bay leaf so I found online that you can substitute some vinegar for extra punch. I also couldn't find fire roasted tomatoes, so I used diced tomatoes with basil, garlic and oregano and added several drops of liquid smoke to give the 'smokey' flavor she was going for. LOVED IT! Definitely outshines the kind you can order at many chain restaurants!

My co-worker is insane. His description of this beauty:

    Jeeves & Wooster pendant lamps.

So very, very in love with these...

Part of the Hidden Art Select range, these pendant lights suitable for any aspiring gentleman or conscientious manservant where class and sophistication are the essential components to illumination. Jeeves’s bowler hat is lined with a refined gold interior, whilst Wooster’s top hat has a more distinguished silver lining. Both exude that quintessential British combination of regimented style and eccentricity.

    Rebate for diamond purchases.

Rebates are a girl's best friend. I have no diamonds, but I know some of you do out there... The offer expires 5/19, so get your claim form in.

Anyone who bought a diamond, or diamond jewelry, any time over a 12-year period could be eligible to collect hundreds of dollars.

It's all because of a class action lawsuit against the diamond supplier De Beers, alleging price fixing.

It means that anyone who bought a diamond or diamond jewelry between 1994 and the first quarter of 2006 may be getting some money back.
