Agyness Deyn’s Buzzy Summer Cut on Style.Com

From style.com:

While the rest of us are spending millions on keratin treatments, turbo-powered flat irons, silicone drops, and all manner of defrizzing gel, model Agyness Deyn has craftily one-upped us all with the ultimate guaranteed-good-hair-day summer cut. She just shaved it all off.

The initial buzzing happened this past April, after a spell spent with a mussed, inky black Billie Joe Armstrong–ish crop that hung punkily in her eyes. “You can hide behind hair and I felt I’d had enough,” says Deyn. Of her new low-to-no-maintenance cut, she says, “It’s fun and easy, and I wanted something new.” Plus, she was headed to the Coachella music festival in the Southern Californian desert, where temperatures can soar into the triple digits. So she went to Freemans’ F.S.C. Barber — the old-school men’s barber/haberdasher stylishly tucked away in an alley on the Lower East Side—and pulled up a chair. “They were like, ‘Agyness, we only do guys’ cuts,’ ” she remembers. “I said, ‘That’s alright. I just want it all off.’ ” Since then, she’s dropped in to the men-centric salon Tommy Guns for a trim, too, and has taken a razor into her own hands, as well.

For many who follow fashion, it’s the first time we’ve seen Agyness’s true hair color—a warm, honey blonde—and her new cut, although androgynous in spirit, has a softening, surprisingly girly effect on her face, bringing all of the focus to her stormy blue eyes. She has been mistaken—from the back—for a boy, and admits to occasionally taking defensive measures, dressing lately in floral frocks, paying particular attention to manicures (though rest assured, she’s lost none of her It-Brit edge: The day she visits Vogue, her nails are painted chalky neon green). She knows what she’s doing. The very first time she shaved her head, “I was 15 or 16, and my best friend, Jessica, did it too. We ended up wearing red lipstick for the first few weeks. It’s weird,” she says, “I feel more feminine, having no hair.” Trust us—she has never looked prettier.
